Choosing a park

Udawalawe is well known for elephants, Yala for varied habitat and leopard possibility, and Wilpattu for a quieter, more spacious experience. Choose by route and ethics, not only a species checklist.

Judge the operator

Ask whether drivers respect distance, park rules and vehicle limits. A responsible guide will leave a crowded sighting rather than block an animal.

Marine wildlife

Select boats that keep distance, limit approach time and avoid chasing whales or dolphins.

Elephant attractions

Avoid performances, forced bathing, riding and direct-contact experiences. Genuine sanctuaries prioritise animal welfare over visitor photographs.
